Environment Policy for Sustainable Tourism
Aurora Village’s management and staff are committed to following this environmental policy.
To provide sustainable travel and activity services, Aurora Village complies with legal requirements and works to identify, assess, and prevent environmental risks in its operations.
We guide staff and guests toward responsible choices through clear information and practical instructions.
Aurora Village focuses particularly on:
- Protecting biodiversity by caring for local wildlife, waterways, and plants.
- Supporting local culture and ways of life by working with local stakeholders in our daily operations.
- Protecting guests and staff through thorough employee orientation and safety guidance.
We are committed to continually developing our operations according to the principles of sustainable development.
Our concrete acts to develop sustainable travel
- We have added recycling facilities to all cabins.
- We have eliminated single-use plastic water bottles from our accommodation units.
- We offer environmentally friendly ways to explore Lappish nature, including snowshoes, cross-country skis, toboggans, and kick sleds. Fat bikes are also available to rent.
- Hiking, cycling, and skiing trails depart directly from the hotel. Reception can provide information about routes and conditions.
- We collaborate with local businesses and operators, including Hotel Ivalo, Club Nord Stable, Souvenir Shop Livva, safari companies, construction companies, and reindeer farms.
- We support local cultures and languages by introducing guests and staff to Sámi culture in collaboration with representatives of the Sámi community.
- We support local biodiversity through measures such as birdhouses, an insect hotel, and salt licks.
- We invest in the skills and well-being of our staff.
Green Key
We were the first destination in Northern Lapland to receive the international Green Key environmental award on 31 August 2020 (ID: GK09448).
